In the upcoming November election, our incumbent Republican Senator Rich Westman, has an opponent, Maureen Heck an Independent Candidate from Hyde Park, should be considered as a competent and enthusiastic contender.  Heck, a former employee of AT&T is married to Cody Forte, a native of Reading Vermont who attended Woodstock H.S. and Okemo Mountain School, that has competed in snowboarding & halfpipe events. The couple reside in Hyde Park and are proud to say their voting records have supported candidates on both sides of the aisle. Maureen’s straight forward ways of explaining the negative repercussions from her opponents voting past (i.e. Act 46 passed 2016) Westman voted YES to repeal the spending caps on the public schools and penalties for overruns which has brought us to today’s historic property tax increase for the overspend from the 2016 vote, is definitely food for thought. Heck’s understanding of economics and having had corporate profit and loss responsibilities, will give voters a candidate with fresh new ideas, that knows how to work through resistance, and can offer different approaches on how to deliver on greatly reduced budgets as she immediately supporting the Governor’s repeal on the historic property tax increase for public schools which is the number one issue in Lamoille County even among teachers.  Heck concurs with the Governor that the Supermajority’s policies do not represent Vermonters overall views
